How can you tell if your tri color cartridge is flowing correctly?

A simple blot test can be done, that is, remove the tri-color cartridge from your printer ,such as an hp 22 or canon cl-31 and blotting it on a piece of paper towel, if the ink is flowing properly you should see three distinct colors, magenta ,cyan ,yellow, if your are only getting two or one of these colors your cartridge will not work properly. It then might be necessary use a simple solution, that is placing the cartridge in hot water, the water should just be covering the bottom of the cartridge, that area where the ink comes out. If your problem persist the cartridge would need to be prime, that is pulling the ink to the print head.
